When you've come into some dark shit and you're holding those secrets to protect the people you love. And then one of those people throws hot button venom at you KNOWING it's a sore spot, knowing they will hurt you.

And instead of eviscerating them with your own secrets and venom and anger and pain, you swallow, and sleep and wake up every few hours to their hurtful words in the back of your throat.

When you get up into the haze of January daylight looking out the window and say "it's snowing".

I'm not sure I understood the last part, but protecting someone who hurts you with what you're protecting them from-- and you're still able to do it, despite how very much it eats away at you-- that speaks of tough family dynamics and a strength and resilience learned the hard way, but still very much in place.

A metaphorical and literal snow job. Now is the winter of our discontent.

I love this. I love the poetry of it. I love the humanity and the generosity of it. I love the wisdom of not striking back, of choosing not to return pain for pain. There is more than maturity here, more than wisdom and generosity of spirit. It's like the highest Buddhist enlightenment.

Being also grounded in the here and now.

Wow. I think I get where you're going with that last line: how even at the darkest times, life keeps moving on.
